Can you still do CrossFit if you’re injured?
We sometimes have members wondering whether they can do the CrossFit class due to an
injury or a niggle – but let us clear this up by saying that they absolutely can!
There are always scaling options available. Some scales might be on a smaller level, whilst
some adjustments might be so big that the workout looks very different to the one written
on the whiteboard – and that’s OK!
Every one of our Coaches here at Blueprint is adept at scaling workouts appropriately, just
make sure you inform them of your injury at the beginning, and you’ll be given a suitable
workout to perform instead.
As an example, if the class workout involves thrusters and skipping, but you’re dealing with
a knee injury that’s stopping you from squatting and jumping for the time being, perhaps
you’ll do a workout with strict press and erg calories instead. The Coach will likely have you
run through a few scaling options until they find one that you can perform without pain.
Our Coaches will always try and choose a scaling option that resembles the prescribed
exercise as closely as possible, whilst also aiming to maintain the intended stimulus of the
workout – i.e. keeping the intensity level as close to the original as planned.
So, in summary, don’t be afraid to come to a class because the movements aren’t injury-
friendly – rest assured you will be given something to do that allows you to get moving and
participate in the class workout of the day.
